“I think with the SDK 3.0 we will be able to create without limits and in terms of experience end users will clearly move a step forward and will never want to come back.”
Michael Guillemont Gameloft
As Michael Guillemont said I think we are going to see the iPhone App Industry push even farther into the bounds of what defines an app and mobile device. The apps that were released today has some stunning features that will be able to push the boundaries of a Mobile Phone and make it a mobile life system. Now as most of us know the iPhone has revolutionized our daily lives and 3.0 SDK will be nothing short of the same.
1000 New API’s
Accessories:
With the new iPhone 3.0 you will be able to make a device communicate via bluetooth, dock connector or through standard protocols to another device. The example that was used today in the WWDC Keynote was a blood glucose monitor that would communicate straight to the iPhone. Utilities that impact peoples lives in everyday scenarios will be utilized to make it easier for you to live through the iPhone.
Peer to Peer:
Through bluetooth the iPhone will be able to recognize that there are other iPhones around and connect to it seemlessly. There will be no pairing needed. So if you and your girlfriend want to play tic-tac-toe in your living room your are able to do so without any hassle.
In App Purchase:
This allows developers to make another download available in a paid app. Free apps will still be free. For example you could play through a game and beat it and after you beat it you unlock another set of maps that you can pay for and download. Pretty cool huh? Its going to make games multi-dimensional and be able to be expanded upon.
Maps:
With the SDk 3.0 you are able to embed Google Maps right into your iPhone app. Also you will be able to include turn by turn into an app as well. I can see a game about a local treasure hunt in a big city being made now.
Push Notifications:
A generic push notification will be available for developers to use. So you will be able to push all of your information for new apps.
This is just a few highlights of the new API. I encourage you to hop over to Apple and watch the WWDC keynote for yourself and see what the new iPhone 3.0 will bring to the mobile platform. I am really excited to see what kind of mind blowing apps will be released.
