I must say I am even more blown away with on-line marketing because of understanding the way the the current generation communicate with their friends through the web. My 10 year old son just took me a site they had launched to manage teenage topics for their . They wanted to know how one could generate advertising on the site to create revenue. I must tell you I am so very proud of them.

Chad, this is an excellent and much needed article series. As I'm sure you know there are over 80,000 apps in the App Store. By this time next year it's projected there will be over a million. That said, the online basics Twitter, FB, your company site, promotional videos and press kit are necessary, but are probably not enough to stand out in a sea of apps. Even if it's a killer app.

I believe innovative marketing/ pr *firsts* that are tailored specifically to your application are necessary and one of the few ways you may be able to get attention for your app. Of course, there is no cookie cutter method to capture the essence of your app and translate it into relevant marketing tactics and an overall plan. None the less, it's something every indie developer should be thinking about from the very beginning of development. Not at the end.
