So not to long ago the iPhone App store hit an astonishing 1 Billion downloads. So what does this mean for iPhone Developers? This means two things:

1. iPhone is a Credible Mobile Platform

Yea, this is probably one of those you could have filed into “I already knew that” but its true. With One Billion downloads this solidifies the App Store and the iPhone SDK platform. Which is great because you know the format isn’t going anywhere and you can delve deep into the world that is the App Store. iPhone has become one of the largest consumed handheld devices and is almost unrivaled for mobile web surfing. TechCrunch reported back in March 2009 that the iPhone makes up 49.5% of the top US smart phones. Which is huge considering the next closest was BlackBerry 8300 at 9.1%. Even worldwide the percentage of the iPhone being the top phone ranks in at 33.0% with the Nokia N70 coming in second at 7.1%. So what do all these numbers mean? This means that the iPhone has picked up steam at a staggering rate and with the new firmware release scheduled sometime this summer(maybe another iPhone) things should escalate even more. So now is the perfect time to become an iPhone developer.

2. Support is Available by the Truckload

I don’t mean that there will be a slew of fanboys (which there are but thats beside the point ) I am talking about there will be documentation and forums for you to find answers as well as resources. Not to mention all of the people you can actually stir up conversation with. The amount of content, videos, SDK help conferences and others is completely unrivaled. Especially once you factor in WWDC which is put on by Apple themselves. So factoring in that there is conferences from Apple, SDK support, tons of apps avaiable to download and over 1 billion already downloaded is there a more perfect time then now to be an iPhone Developer?
